Christian Science Church

Our house manager (or another volunteer) is always happy to offer rides to students wishing to attend either the Sunday morning or Wednesday evening church service.

When are church services?

Church services in Madison are held Sunday mornings at 10am, at the Christian Science church off campus. In addition, the church also hosts Wednesday evening testimony meetings at 7:30pm – this is very much like a second church service to help you recharge mid-week. Each of these services lasts about an hour. A special holiday service is also held on Thanksgiving Day in November.

Where is the church?

The Christian Science church in Madison is located on Madison’s west side, at 610 S. Segoe Road, which is on the corner of Segoe and Tokay. More information about the church can be found on their website.

How do I get there?

Our house manager is always happy to provide rides from the campus to the church for any student(s) wishing to attend church services. Even on days when she might not be available, she can coordinate other volunteers to give rides. Please get in touch with us either by phone or by email and we will help arrange some kind of carpool. Alternatively, if you have a bus pass (free to UW and Madison College students), there are bus lines that run right to the church.

What’s a church service like?

As a student, you probably have two options: the regular church service, or Sunday School. Sunday School in a Christian Science church is similar to “youth group” in a mainstream church, as it includes students through the age of 20. Sunday School is a discussion-based format that allows for individual questions with a teacher whose goal is to help students unlock the spiritual meaning of the Bible. In contrast, the normal church service features hymns, Scriptural readings, and readings from the Christian Science textbook meant to elucidate the corresponding Bible readings. In addition, Wednesday meetings include space for church and community members to share testimonies of how God is working in their lives.

What other events do you have going on?

The CSO is hosting small discussion groups on Thursday afternoons at noon. These meetings include a Bible study component, and more information can be found here.

I have an idea for an event; what should I do?

Great! If you have an idea for some type of event (one-time or recurring) that you’d like to see us sponsor, or take part in, please let us know on our contact form. We’re always open to new ideas.
